Over the past few years JJ Adams has become undoubtedly one of the UK’s most exciting and impressive fine artists with an envied reputation for selling out entire collections of artworks on their day of release.
Originally from Plymouth but spending his formative years within the bright, colourful, pop inspired Cape Town – Adams works within a range of mixed media from his Sussex based studio. Collaborations with the likes of MTV and Bentley enhanced the artist’s name within the industry and his broad subjects, humorous takes and incredible attention to detail have cultivated a worldwide following.
The son of a baptist preacher, JJ Adams emigrated as a child from Plymouth in the UK to Cape Town in South Africa in the early eighties. Adams spent much of his youth around the studio of South African contemporary landscape artist Derric van Rensburg, where he discovered his love of bright colour and graphic art. JJ Adams studied graphic design at Cape College whilst working as an apprentice in Wildfire Tattoos, a busy tattoo studio in central Cape Town.
He returned to the UK in 1998 where he furthered his study in commercial printing at the Plymouth College of Art and Design. He worked as a freelance graphic designer and sign maker before finally breaking into fine art.
JJ Adams’ artwork is held in high esteem by private collectors, and his limited edition pieces are sought after by some of the most famous names in the world. His incredible reputation has been cemented by various awards and accolades, including Best Selling Published Artist 2016.
